Jan Schamp to celebrate 100th birthday in Cypress River area

Mr. Jan Schamp of Glenboro turns one hundred on November 11. Born in East Flanders Belgium he arrived in Canada as a youth with ten siblings aboard the White Starling, settling near Swan Lake and later Cypress River Manitoba. He married Augusta Malfait in 1918 and built a farm life with their expanding family across decades.

Blue Box Recycling Begins In Glenboro This Week

Blue boxes are delivered to Glenboro homes and businesses on Friday with a trailer from Treherne used to haul recyclables each Wednesday. Pick up starts Wednesday November 6 and costs are lowered if residents sort cans plastics and papers into the boxes. Funding comes from Interprovincial Pipeline Glenboro Recycling Depot and the Manitoba Stewardship Program.

The Glenboro Health Clinic appeals for funds to buy a new diesel powered Handi-Van with seating for 12 ambulatory passengers and space for four wheelchairs. Committee chairperson Mr. Glen Tosh notes vans cost between 70 000 and 80 000 dollars and more seating could boost usage.

Blain’s Bend horse wins Manitoba 50/50 Futurity

For the third straight year and fourth in five, a Blain’s Bend bred horse tops the Manitoba Super Horse 50/50 Futurity at the Brandon Fall Fair. This year’s high point winner is BNE Miss Dee Ginger, owned and trained by Don Rudko of Dugald MB, earning $10,820. Blain’s Bend Quarterhorses is owned by Bob and Ellen Blain of Glenboro.
