John R. Moore Elected Reeve of South Cypress
John R. Moore of the Treesbank district wins the South Cypress reeve race over Ken C. Dowd after a 56 percent turnout with 228 Moore votes to 109 for Dowd. Ward 2 elects John S. Hamilton 49 to 27 for Rod Noel. 60 percent turnout there. Voters also expressed views on Manitoba language status with about half voting on the official languages question, 281 no to 22 yes. Reeve and councillors take oath on November 9 for a three year term.

Manitoba Pool Elevators posts record grain handle
Manitoba Pool Elevators released figures for the year ended July 31, 1983 showing a record 3 119 000 tonnes of grain handled. The Oakner near Hamiota complex led with 2 million bushels, and 44 pools units handled at least one million bushels. President Wallace Fraser highlighted efficiency, noting a four to one turnover and that the co op handled 58.4 percent of Manitoba receipts with 51.5 percent of provincial capacity, while launching a $10 million capital program for 1983.

Glenboro Flying Club Moves Clubhouse to Airport
Members of the Glenboro Flying Club have purchased a building from Rivers and moved it to Glenboro airport for a clubhouse. A telephone has been installed for incoming pilots. Flying lessons at the airport are progressing well thanks to favorable weather.

Nordics Re organise for Coming Season
On Monday October 24 1983 the Glenboro Nordics held a re organization meeting and will play in the Tiger Hills Hockey League again. A new executive has been formed with Ed Wertz as President and Tony Fraser as Coach among others. The club, managing about $15000, plans a home game pool and Xmas draw and seeks continued fan support.
