Dairy Barn Fire Destroys Malyon Farm Structure

On Saturday, June 25, a fire at the Earl Malyon dairy barn on the Glenboro area farm destroyed the barn milking equipment hay granary and about 400 bushels of oats. Fire officials say spontaneous combustion in straw bales sparked the blaze. The Malyons assess losses while cows are milked at Hi-Win Glen farm nearby.

Portage golfer Tom Marsh wins spring tournament title

The Portage event drew 88 players Saturday and 102 on Sunday with Tom Marsh posting 36 35 for a 71 to capture the championship. Murray Lindenberg carded 74 and Roy Hurd 75 as runners up, with multiple flight winners listed and numerous sweepstakes prizes awarded.

Glenboro Kindergarten Teacher Honoured On Retirement

Mrs. Emma Hallgrimson was feted at a tea at Glenboro School on June 27 as about 150 attendees including students parents and neighbours gathered to wish her a happy retirement. The community presented a wall clock crystal vase and desk set while pupils gave a leather clutch.

Doctor Brooke to leave Glenboro hospital by mid July

Governing board notes Dr. D E Brooke plans to depart Glenboro District Hospital by mid July. Administrators start nationwide search for a new director of nursing and pursue replacements via Winnipeg Free Press and medical groups. Disbursements for May totaled 26404.68 for the Hospital and 7375.89 for the Home.

Airport plan nears Glenboro site choice

Local residents continue to push for an airport to serve Glenboro. A new potential location is being considered along a little used road between farms of Ivan Dowd, Bill McKenzie, and Jack Gowanlock, running north and south.

Wawanesa Days Race Weekend Return of 75th Year

The 75th racing event in Wawanesa is slated for July 1 and July 2. Races start at 2 30 p m daily and occur during Wawanesa Days along with other community events.

Carberry Fair Plans Two–Day Aug 7 8 Activities

Carberry's 93rd annual Exhibition scheduled for July 7 and 8, 1977, features harness racing, Rivers Pipe Band, helicopter rides, midway, baseball, food, and 4 H Calf Show with eleven steers sold. Glenboro 4 H Club participates with beef, heifer and dairy projects, while Lions Park hosts camping for visitors.

Liberals Nominate Jean Strath for Souris Killarney Seat

At a Souris meeting on June 22 the Liberal party endorsed Jean Strath as their Souris Killarney candidate for the upcoming provincial election. Strath, a former Home Economist from Souris, ran last fall and placed second to Sterling Lyon. She will face Brian Ransom of Boissevain for the PCs and Howard Nixon of Margaret for the NDP in the general election.
