110 golfers competed in Glenboro's Senior tournament on June 8 sponsored by the Glenboro Ladies Golf Club. The results list top finishers in five ladies flights and three men’s flights with cash and novelty prizes awarded.
Cypress River Comets opened last week in Neepawa losing 1 to 5 as pitching held the old Neepawa Farmers to five runs. June 12 saw a 11 to 10 home win over Holland A’s marking a first victory of the season. Upcoming games include Plumas Pirates on June 17 and Neepawa Cubs in Cypress on June 19.
Elena Truelove reports the Odd Job Squad Labour Raffle runs over the next two weeks with tickets at 1.00 and a prize of three hours of labour from the winning student. The centre also hosts children’s activities at the fair on July 1 at 1:00 pm, including face painting a fish pond and water balloon throwing. Call 827-2695 during 9:00 am to 5:00 pm or leave a message at the Railway and Lyall corner office to hire a student for work.
The Glenboro golf club reports strong turnout in two tournaments last week. Al Greer won the men's senior flight with 73. Pat Foote of Killarney took the ladies crown with 87. Sheldon Fleury of Erie captured the championship flight with 71, while Trent Leece shot 72 for second. The new 3rd tee debuted for the Seniors event. Eight club members regularly travel to Shilo Carberry Neepawa Minnedosa and MacGregor. A missing gas BBQ and a stolen pull-type golf cart are being sought.
Mary Sampson reports on local visits across Manitoba and beyond. Families including Wallis, Murphy, Roney, and Foster share travel and homecomings in Banff High River Kitchener and White Rock. Extended kin celebrate Vera Munny’s 98th birthday at Valley Lodge.
