Cypress River Opens New Premises With 103-Year-Old Cutter

The oldest resident, Mrs. J. T. Dale aged 103, cut the ribbon Saturday to open Cypress River Electric. Town Board member Albert De Smet praised proprietor Bob Martens and urged resident support while MLA Henry Einarson delivered provincial greetings.

Manitoba Parks Expand Interpretive Service Program

Manitoba parks increase interpretive programs this summer with 14 student guides under three full time park naturalists. They’ll lead evening amphitheatre shows, nature walks, slide shows, and events at centres in Nutimik Whiteshell, Westhawk Lake, Spruce Woods, and planned Hecla Island. About 300 visitors toured Cypress River showroom. door prizes awarded to local residents.

Canucks Scrape Split in SCBL Action This Week

Glenboro Canucks split two SCBL games last week losing 3-2 to the Comets at Cypress River then winning 5-1 at home over the Carberry Royals. Darry Stevens led the hitting with 3-for-3 in the Cypress River game and added two hits in the Royals win. Jed Coates pitched the Carberry victory while Ron Wertz took the Cypress River loss. The Canucks sit third in SCBL standings as of June 12 with upcoming road trip to Carberry and a home game against MacGregor, then Baldur tournament next Sunday.

Retired Glenboro Pharmacist Honored With Golden Anniversary

Willard Witherspoon, longtime Glenboro pharmacist, received the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association Golden Anniversary Certificate at the Convention Awards Luncheon on Monday June 13 1977 at the Red Oak Inn Brandon Manitoba. Bryan Shaw president presented the award and gave a brief life resume followed by Witherspoon's reply. Mrs Witherspoon and daughter Jean Burgess attended as special guests. Corsages were pinned by Mrs Walter Barlowski. The occasion was a proud moment for the retired druggist and his family.

Con artist thief captured after Glenboro incident

A man described as a con artist spent a brief stay in Glenboro on Monday then was nabbed near Treherne. He reportedly gained several dollars from at least one Glenboro business by making a small purchase and confusing the clerk into overchange.

Fire Chief Demonstrates Oil Fire Fighting Aids At Gretna

Glenboro District News reports Fire Chief Harvey Glawson attended a Gretna demonstration on Thursday June 9 showing oil fire fighting methods using different extinguishers. Rev and Mrs Chesny Morgan of Winnipeg visited James and Beth Graham over the weekend.

Baseball Tourney at Cypress Rained Out

Rain halted the Cypress River baseball tournament Sunday after the four teams Baldur Brandon Killarney and Holland shared the prize. Twelve teams entered the event sponsored by the Cypress River Comets.

Glenboro Council May Extend Sewage Lagoon and Pass By-Laws

The June 7 1977 Glenboro Council minutes report approval of May minutes and payments. The meeting granted beer garden rights for a July 24 1977 baseball tournament. A 400 grant to ICCF Hall and 1080 to support ambulance services were approved. By-laws 381 and 385 passed. expropriation notice for lagoon extension advertised. Deputy Mayor chaired after Mayor Horton left.
