Glenboro Fair Results Show Broad Range of Winners

The Glenboro Fair lists numerous champions across horses cattle poultry and crops. Notable victors include Emilie Philippe of St Claude with Aberdeen Angus and R G Beattie & Son of Killarney earning the Rose Bowl for best herd along with multiple winners in saddle horses shetland ponies and grain shows. Special honors go to best turned out rider and the Ray Taft cattle prize with many names cited for divisions in livestock poultry and garden crops. Next week more fair results follow.

Municipal Fodder Bank Program Launched in Manitoba

Manitoba launches a municipal fodder bank allowing farmers to cut wheat oats or barley for fodder and assign it to a local bank. Agriculture minister Geo Hutton urged immediate action as the federal plan offers a 50 50 bonus of 5 per ton, with August deadline for bailed cereal fodder.

4-H Rally Highlights Glenboro Fair Week

The district 4-H Rally joined Glenboro Fair drawing 411 members and 82 leaders from 26 clubs in Holland and Somerset. Judges crowned Edna Delichte as Rally Queen with dress models by 15 clubs, and two gold watches were awarded to Gail Anderson and Dan DePauw for outstanding club members. Over 1500 fair visitors witnessed contests, displays, and a parade led by Gail Anderson and Rene Conrad.

Hay Available in U.S.A. for Manitoba Farmers

Agriculture minister Geo Hutton says good quality hay at reasonable prices is in the border states. Peter Herner is named as liaison between buyers and U S suppliers with two contact numbers. Farmers may haul hay by trucking firms moving cattle to U S markets and Manitoba offers a five cent per ton mile subsidy up to nine dollars per ton on homeward fodder movement. Farmers may drive to Minnesota and North Dakota to inspect hay at the source.

The annual Dieppe Raid veterans reunion of 1942 will be at Minto Armouries in Winnipeg on the evening of August 18. Comrades from across Manitoba and beyond are expected to attend, promising the largest turnout in years.

Holland Ag Rep 4-H Calf Sale crowns champions at Treherne

Rollie Harp of Treherne wins Grand Champion with an 820 pound Shorthorn calf sold for 26 cents a pound to Don Andrews. Reserve Champion Hereford shown by Glen Almey brings 23 cents per pound. The sale averaged 20.9 cents, with 82 calves sold. Dr Stiles Trophy Junior champ Bill Young edges Darwin Richmond for the trophy.
