Cypress River Students Honored at Manitoba Legislature

In 1989 Cypress River School grade 5 and 6 entered five poetry and prose pieces in the Provincial Literary Contest and won second prize among 496 schools. The group visited the Museum of Man and Nature, IMAX, and the Legislative Building in Winnipeg where Minister Len Derkach, Lieutenant Governor George Johnson, and Chancellor Duckworth presented five books to the school. Stephanie Nordal accepted the prize on behalf of the class.

South Cypress R M approves 1990 budget levies and realignment

The Rural Municipality of South Cypress held its February 13 1990 meeting in Glenboro approving the Cypress Planning District levy of 7500 and the Glenboro South Cypress Weed Control District levy of 19425 to be paid in 1990. The council realigns P R No 340 with a route between sections 4 5 and 8 9 township 7 range 15 W and contracts Tymoschuk Gravel Hauling Ltd to supply 5000 cubic yards of screened gravel. It appoints Rod MacKay Jr as Stockton Ferry operator for 1990 and accepts a 589 Per 1990 levy for the Glenboro Health District Board with Margaret Thornborough appointed to complete Paulsons term. It also approves river rafting venture by Davin Oleson and Randy Dowd along the Assiniboine River and purchases 300 municipal pins from Brian Shippam Inc. The council also handles highway realignment discussion with the Provincial Highways Department and designates a 1990 levy of 7500 and 19425 for respective districts.

Cathy Dowd joins three Westman players in Manitoba Ringette Phase 2 as 25 skaters and four goaltenders advance to final selection for the 1991 Canada Games after earlier trials tested over 200 athletes from eight regions. Phase 2 runs to late April with final team announced.
