The Gazette will not publish on March 3 and March 10. The next issue appears the week of March 15. Office remains open for renewals ads and news items. Sears office hours 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
No nominations were received for the Glenboro Village Council seat vacant since February 2 1982. The clerk will appoint at the next regular meeting. Nominations were due February 23 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. following the resignation of Charlotte Oleson.
Garth McIntyre reports that Tiger Hills School Division will close on Monday March 1 for a divisional inservice in Cypress River. Morning panel on education image discipline and attitudes features parents and teachers. afternoon runs workshops and drug awareness plus CPR hopes. Science fair winners include Grade 1 2 Light How it Works and Water Ice and Snow. Grade 3 4 Apollo XI Saturn V. individuals Dinosaurs Periscope and The Water Cycle.
Baldur Barons won the senior hockey tournament hosted by Glenboro Nordics on February 20 21 taking first place with two wins and four points. Glenboro and Winnipeg tied for second with one point each but Glenboro earned the Consolation Plaque on goals for and against.
Stacey Sigurdson and Laureen Anderson won figure skating golds for the Dutch Waltz and Canasta Dance at the Central Plains Regional Competitions in Gladstone on February 13. The Cypress River club fielded twenty eight skaters under Holly Leslie with Laureen Anderson assisting juniors. The Sunday ice show Babes in Toyland featured guest skaters Tammy Hutler and Louise O’Brien-Moran, with solo numbers by multiple club members despite soft ice.
The Glenboro bonspiel ran February 18 to 21 with 32 rinks. Thornborough led a Glenboro winner over Barr in the first event, while Jim Sampson’s Ken Barr entry claimed the second event title over Winnipeg rival Jones. Coates defeated McDonald for third event honors, and Brandon’s Larry Bjornson led the first-out rink. Calcutta winners were led by Thornborough and others. rinks sold by auction raised $960.00.
