Dr. P. Hurton Re-Elected Hospital Board Chairman

The Glenboro Health District held its inaugural meeting on January 26 1983 electing Dr J P Hurton as chairman and Eugene Ehnes as vice chairman. Committees were named with cross representation and four board officers plus three staff signing officers appointed. Manitoba Health Services Commission announced a 7.5 percent budget increase for 1983 84. The new Personal Care Home advances are ongoing with a target completion by July and hospital renovations by September. The Glenboro Chamber of Commerce donated 1000 to the project and furnishings plans proceed with Winnipeg viewing of furniture and colors. December 1982 disbursements totaled 62144.98.

Glenboro Rinks Win Men's Open Bonspiels

The 77th Annual Men's Open Bonspiel in Glenboro held Feb 11–13 saw 25 rinks in the First Event with Keith Wooldridge rink of Glenboro defeating Ken Sampson of Carman. Kent Myers of Wawanesa won the Second Event over Don Barr of Glenboro, and Glenn Mitchell of Carberry took the Third Event. Calcutta prizes and auctions totaled $1,125. Second half contests Feb 18–20 produced winners Henry Thornborough and Don Barr, with Darwin Richmond taking the Third Event and multiple Calcutta winners named. Cash prizes awarded to Donna Granger and others.

Farm Shop 105 Approved at Glenboro School

Excerpts from the 1983 Tiger Hills School Division board minutes show Farm Shop 105 approved as a School Initiated Course at Glenboro for the current semester. A field trip to Winnipeg for Holland Special Education Class students was approved. a Grade V student exchange with Riverton and Pilot Mound was approved in principle. A $100 grant was authorized for Belmont School’s Artist in the Schools program. Representative appointments and staffing report were noted.
