Chamber members met Monday night to appoint Gabe Joyal to the Recreation Commission and Lloyd Pyper as delegate to the March annual meeting. They discussed the 76th annual fair, a public pay telephone, extra decorative lighting, and a planned roadside stop for tourists.
Schedule lists games at Glenboro including Holland vs Glenboro on February 26 at 8 p.m. Cypress River visits Glenboro for a Feb 28 under 12 game and March 1 basketball, Treherne at Glenboro on March 1 at 8 p.m. Juvenile game Haywood at Cypress River on March 5. Cypress River hosts Cypress River at Holland on March 7.
The 14 and under Stockton hockey squad defeated the visiting Ned Derkach team 9 to 3 after a 2 pm start. Lenny Claeys and Douglas Dalgleish scored for Stockton, with Morley Rollins, Garry Woods, and Raymond Cas Sick also contributing. The visitors also played a 6-3 win on Sunday as Grosse Isle edged Stockton.
Glenboro and Cartwright intermediates played an exhibition in Glenboro on Feb. 17 with Cartwright winning 64. Glenboro scorers were Bob Penner, Brian Ridgeway two goals each, Charles Hilhorst and Larry Barry one each. Mr and Mrs W Wallis celebrated their 40th anniversary at a Baldur gathering with local friends. Wawanesa Intermediates visit Glenboro Feb. 24, Glenboro intermediates plan an exhibition at Devil's Lake March 5.
Local curlers Herman Arason Doug Elliott Harold Jackson and Bill Dewart compete in Flin Flon this week as part of a regional circuit. The foursome tests ice conditions and tactics ahead of upcoming championships.
The Glenboro Hospital Aid holds its regular meeting Monday February 26 at 8 16 p m in the hospital.
In an intermediate game Killarney Shamrocks defeated Glenboro 6 to 2. Dennis Wertz and Brian Ridgeway scored for Glenboro with Wertz on a penalty shot. A two week lay off and Glenboro wearing green may have caused confusion. Rematch possible in two weeks. Under-12 games saw Glenboro A edge Holland 4-3 and Cypress River beat Glenboro 2-1.
Liberal leader Molgat returned to Winnipeg from Ottawa praising the Prime Minister and Cabinet for sympathy toward Manitoba problems. He said without a copy of a key report he faced a disadvantage in discussing the Nelson River Power project. Molgat reported the federal government’s interest in Western Canada and outlined urgent Manitoba concerns, including industrial stagnation and population decline, during a Monday luncheon with the Prime Minister.
Cypress River residents share news of a 25th wedding anniversary for Mr. and Mrs. Ingaldson on Feb 8. Former locals attend, funds raised for the Canadian March of Dimes, and a suite of community updates include church board welcomes, Chamber of Commerce organizing, hospital wishes, birthday and rink adventures, a World Day of Prayer event, a beke sale, and a Fireside Hour program with local choirs.
Glenboro notes its 60th annual bonspiel as Gordon Sorensen’s Wawanesa rink wins the Grand Challenge over Stan Oleson of Glenboro. Ed Patterson and Wayne Cory back the victors while Hamilton’s rink claims the Chamber of Commerce event. The piece lauds strong play and the enduring bonspiel spirit amid South Central Manitoba teams.
Svein Sveinson 53 formerly of Baldur died February 17 1966 at Winnipeg General Hospital. Funeral February 21 at 2 pm Baldur Lutheran Church officiated by Rev I H Holm. Interment Baldur cemetery. He was born September 8 1912 in Glenboro district. Survived by wife Alice daughters Lynda Edwin and Atlan all in Winnipeg mother Mrs J A Sveinson one brother Arni Baldur four sisters in Vancouver Brandon Glenboro and Baldur. Pallbearers listed.
Mr and Mrs Chris Nordman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an at home gathering on Feb 13 in Mayfair Place Winnipeg. They were married Feb 10 1916 in Cypress River. They have one daughter Iris and four sons, 11 grandchildren, over 200 guests with many gifts.
Canadian industrial leader J M Keith president of Imperial Tobacco of Canada outlines essential traits for modern businessmen. He adds university graduates should combine technical training with humanities to develop well rounded individuals ready for industry.
Members of Rachel Rebekah Lodge No 29 host a Monday afternoon tea on February 28 in the IOOF hall from 2 to 5 30. Souvenirs gifts and district meeting reports will be on display and Assembly President Mrs Irene Brown will greet visitors. Everyone welcome.
