J Q O Hettle buys trip to the city on Saturday. Miss May Parsonage of Greenway visits Mr James Dowd. Money to loan on farm land at 645 percent. A Portage man is fined 40 dollars for leaving a horse unprotected in severe weather. The death of Leonard Mawhinney at Brandon aged 17. The Provincial Fair at Brandon attracts crowds. At the quarterly board meeting the finances were in good shape and the Rev. R A Swyers was unanimously invited to serve another year. Since his arrival he has made many friends and his congregations have grown.
Public meetings for Geo. Steel MPP Conservative candidate will be held at Abbott's Hall Stockton on Monday evening February 25 and at F. Hall Glenboro on Tuesday February 26 and Cypress River on Wednesday February 27 with prominent speakers. A Liberal candidate Forbes is invited. A separate incident reports a woman attacked on Louise avenue around 10:30 PM near Fourteenth to Fiftieth streets. she screamed, a bystander alerted others, and the assailant struck her before fleeing.
John Thompson plans to sell stock implements on Wednesday March 6 from his farm four miles east and south of Glenboro. James Mogey starts Tuesday March 12 selling stock implements and furniture two miles south of Stockton. AE Abbott, living at 7.7.15, will offer stock and implements for sale Monday March 11. The Chief Game Guardian of Manitoba announces that a small percentage of resident big game licenses issued for the 1906 open season have not yet been returned. Holders must surrender licenses sworn before a police magistrate or justice of the peace immediately after the season ends. Those who overlooked this should attend to it at once.
A cowardly assault on the sixteen year old daughter of a prominent Brandon citizen occurred tonight. The assailant remains unknown, and the incident has shocked the community. Police investigation begins as family receives medical aid and witnesses are sought.
The custom of naming farms is becoming general as farmers print the name on stationery. A farm name personalizes the place, advertises it in letters, and helps business. The butter wrapper also popularized farm names and added distinctive personality.
A meeting at Chalmers church on Monday at 3 p m endorsed extending a call to Rev R C Pollock of Cypress River. The offer includes 1000 dollars annually, a free manse, and one month holiday. call signed by many, circulated by elders, to be presented to Presbytery at Cypress on the 26th.
