The period from February 8 to 14 brings extreme cold with a high of 0 on the 14th and a low of -32 on the 9th. Average daytime temperature is -13 and overall average around -19 with 0.6 cm precipitation and temperatures 2 degrees below normal.
The Village of Glenboro schedules a by election due to Charlotte Oleson resigning from the council. Nominations close February 23 with the election set about three weeks after if multiple candidates file. Oleson recently joined the provincial legislature as Conservative MLA for Gladstone. Other council members are David East Ewart Hudson Lloyd Moore and Mayor Eugene Ehnes.
The 76th annual Men s Bonspiel at Glenboro ran February 11 to 14 with thirty two rinks. Bruce Anderson s foursome won the First Event over Baldur s Dalzell crew. Ivan Elliott led Glenboro to Second Event glory over Dwayne Hamilton s group. Glenboro also topped the Third Event with Henry Thornborough s rink first. Calcutta totals reached 1460 dollars. The second half starts February 18 at 5 PM with thirty two entries.
Jim and Aleta Milloy of Glenboro celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on February 14 1982. Married February 14 1932 in Brandon they lived in Wawanesa Winnipeg and Glenboro. They have a daughter Jean, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Relatives from several communities attended a Legion Hall tea and dinner with 163 guest book signatures.
Glenboro Figure Skating Club presented its annual skating review on Sunday February 14 with a valentine theme. About sixty five skaters performed solo and group numbers while Craig Bronson and Stephen Ball wore scarlet Mountie uniforms waving Canadian and Manitoba flags. The event featured Pro Instructor Cathy Horbas and helpers. Gift presentations honored Toby Penner and Nicole McIntyre for recent achievements. Commentator Gwen Jefferies guided spectators through lively routines as frost dusted the arena roof.
The school invites all to attend a Friday science fair with morning project judging and public viewing session from 1 to 5 pm and again 7 to 9 pm. Also lists ongoing activities from welding to catechism and 4-H, plus senior volleyball and in-service notes.
Glenboro Arena hosts a two day senior hockey tournament sponsored by the Nordics featuring Manitou Baldur Barons Glenboro Nordics and a fourth team. Games are at 4 30 and 7 30 pm on Saturday February 20 and Sunday February 21. MVP medallions will be awarded to one player from each team after each game and trophies given to the A side and B side winners.
