Death of James A. Mullen at Cypress River
James A. Mullen died after a brief illness of less than a week, amid wide community mourning. Born January 8, 1843 in Argentaille Quebec, he served in Quebec Rangers during Fenian raids, moved to Cypress River in 1886, and gained local fame in farming and poultry. A staunch Conservative and Orange Order member, he supported the summer fair and turf club, left a widow and six children, and his funeral was held Sunday with Orange Lodge involvement and services at Glencove cemetery.

A pretty Saturday wedding in the Brn district united Jonina Bjornson and Axel Sigmar at 4 pm. The bride wore cream silk foline with silk applesque, veil, and a wreath of white roses, while her sister appeared as a bridesmaid in white silk. The groom’s brother S Sigmar of Glenboro and F Hallgansson of Baldur assisted. After a reception at J Olafson’s and a supper, the couple left by evening train for Winnipeg amid showers of rice.

After an hour and a half of questions he received a hearty vote of thanks, and a resolution endorsing public ownership of elevators was carried unanimously.
