Two front lobby windows at Glen Haven Manor Glenboro were damaged late Monday night likely by a shotgun blast between midnight and 1 am. Police and residents report the incident as a senseless act with no injuries cited.
A January 17 1985 meeting at Carberry Municipal Hall gathered over 100 people to address elk and wildlife crop damage near Spruce Woods. Leaders from Manitoba Natural Resources and Crop Insurance outlined costs while residents urged compensation and better hunting rules. A committee formed to pursue redress and prevention, naming Spruce Woods and Area Wildlife and Game Bird Damage Committee.
The first half of the 79th Annual Men's Bonspiel in Glenboro concluded February 7 to 10 with 18 entries across three events. Rob Ramage of Baldur defeated Jed Coates of Glenboro in the Credit Union final with Allen Coates and Trevor Mowat reaching third and fourth. Co-op Event was decided by Carl Plohman over Roger Elliott, with Tim Wallis and Bruce Anderson as thirds and fourths. Steve Bjornson won the Pool Elevator Event over Dale Fisher, while calcutta winners included A Hamilton, G Hamilton, R Rawlings, Don Barr, and D Hamilton. The second half starts February 14 with 33 entries so far.
Seventy cross country skiers gathered at Spruce Woods Park on the Yellow Quill trail February 10. Entrants from Flin Flon to Winnipeg, ages seven to adult, faced 10 km for main racers and 5 km for tourist and junior. Prizes totaled 39 awards with $50 to the first male and female finishers. volunteers from Scouts Guides Patrol and associations supported a successful event amid frigid conditions. Contributions to the Heart Fund were welcomed.
The Gazette will suspend publication from February 16 through March 2 for its annual winter holiday. No issues will appear on February 20 or 27. The next issue is set for March 6. Office hours remain 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for ads and news items. Sears Catalogue Order Office also stays open.
