Fort William Ontario February 5 Winnipeg curlers captured the O Grady Cup from the Fort William holders. Fenton and Huston rinks were edged in fourteen ends. Lemon beat Huston 12 11. McDougall defeated Fenton 7 2 after a twelfth end tie. Fenton missed a last rock lift by a hair.
The home of Mr and Mrs Robert Sharman hosted a small wedding on Wednesday January 24 uniting their daughter Alice to W Fulton Ross of Holland. Only a few relatives attended. The couple will travel to Vancouver and western points before settling in Holland Manitoba Souris.
The rink hosted the second Masquerade Carnival of the season on Thursday with more costumed participants than before. Belmont band performed but skaters felt the music stingy. Prize winners included Lady Miss Geasleson as Miss Canada, Gent Mr Webster as a Zulu Chief, Girl May McCutcheon, Boy Clifford Trimble, and Comic Alf Wood with a riding horse. The event was deemed a success and the manager praised.
A large Curlers gathering at the Leland Hotel sample room decided to hold a bonspiel in the last week of the month. First draw is Monday evening the 26th inst. Committees were named to run the event and enthusiasm suggests this will exceed past efforts. Bills and programmes with full event and prize details will be released soon.
A meeting at Batters Hall Holland attracted attendees for the Million for Manitoba League. J J Staples chaired as Reeve of Victoria, W H Spinks served as secretary, and the gathering elected George Steele MPP as vice president with W R Ross as second vice president and H L Rixon as secretary. An Victoria executive committee was named with South Cypress and South Norfolk to appoint sub committees joining the provincial body.
M. J. Carrothers, long serving general agent for the Rumley Co in Glenboro, has been named general agent for the Canadian Advance Line of the M Rumley Co at Winnipeg. He will move with his family at once after selling his residence to D W Shaw Cornwallis secretary treasurer. Friends in Glenboro extend congratulations.
A whimsical note from a 17 year old couple, Mary Ann and William, who meet in the Glenboro post office. An eavesdropper describes their telephony exchange about a boil on Mary Ann’s face and their affection, ending with Bill accepting her explanation and happiness returning.
A 17 year old boy John Pidgeon ended his life by hanging on Monday at the Walter Jenkins farm three miles south of town. The boy’s family and visitors were present in the home when the tragedy occurred and authorities were alerted to investigate.
Miss Ness confronted Pidgeon as he pointed a 22 rifle at her head and demanded she accompany him. She wrestled the weapon away and summoned help. Pidgeon then hanged himself in a cow shed, neck broken, instant death. Inquest deemed unnecessary. funeral set for Carman cemetery. Home boy with English mother, living in the area about two years.
