Wawanesa District 1981 Review of Weather and Community Life
The Wawanesa district reports a varied crop year with drought, heavy rains, hail and late season floods. The community hosted the first Winter Games in the Westman area and planned expansion to the province. Highlights include the Glenwawa Recreation Districts first year, Jane McGaw’s recreation work, a grand IH dealer opening, student exchanges with Val d Or, a 20 year high school reunion, and the opening of a new village office, firehall, and a Personal Care Home. An ambulance service was established, Hope Rebekah Lodge marked 60 years, and Lions Club activities centered on the pool, hockey gear, and community events. The provincial election moved Wawanesa into Arthur constituency with Jim Downie as MPP.
