Manitoba strengthens penalties for repeat impaired and fleeing drivers
The province enacts harsher sanctions for repeat drunk and suspended drivers and for fleeing police. The law doubles impoundment to 60 days on breathalyser refusals or BAC over .08, with longer periods for subsequent offences, lengthens repeat-offence tracking to five years, and imposes licence suspensions up to seven years for flight from police. It applies to all vehicles including off road use.

Emile Van Schepdael died November 23 2000 at St Claude Hospital at age 95. Born April 30 1905 in Pamel Brabant Belgium he worked as a trucker and later ran a feed and fertilizer business. He is survived by two sons two daughters and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral Mass November 27 2000 in St Claude with interment in Glenboro Cemetery. Memorials may go to a charity of choice. Adam's Funeral Home Notre Dame de Lourdes Manitoba in care of arrangements.
