Temperatures remained above average throughout the week. The high hit 32 degrees on the 27th and a low of 7.5 degrees on the 22nd. Average daytime temp around 28 with a lifetime average near 21. Precipitation totaled 17.6 mm with a weather note of continued above average conditions.
Glenboro mayor Eugene Ehnes and South Cypress reeve Percy Shepherd joined representatives from Glenboro South Cypress Volunteer Fire Department to receive a 2 way radio and mobile telephone from the Provincial Fire Commissioner. The Village and Municipality shared the $1 cost as all Turtle Mountain Metal Aid district departments received units. Bill Jamieson, fire chief, says both fire trucks and the rescue unit are now radio equipped.
Ground and air teams located Winnipeg man Ernest Von Graevenitz and his 13 year old son after a family emergency prompted a river trip from Spruce Woods Park toward Portage la Prairie. Park staff assisted by Ken Northey used a plane and river observers to find them 3 pm Wednesday about 6 river miles west of Highway 34 bridge.
The Tiger Hills Cultural Centre project in Holland advances with building plan revisions and grant applications. A sub-committee seeks book donations to establish library services for the R M of Victoria, promising broad cultural benefits to residents near Winnipeg and Brandon.
Manitoba MLA Brain Ransom announced his bid for the Progressive Conservative Party leadership. He vows to broaden the party base with policies reflecting Manitoba’s ethnic heritage and economy while supporting municipal autonomy. Ransom, 43, has held multiple provincial roles and runs a Turtle Mountain lodge with farming interests, with four children.
Glenboro Lutheran Church observes its 60th anniversary with a Sunday service led by Shelley Jo Bobb and a post service program. Greetings from local faith leaders and letters from former pastors were read. A Monday note from Rev. Morris Green extended anniversary wishes. A Sept. 4 installation of Bobb as Argyle parish pastor and a communal lunch follow.
