Firey Sam Sets Fastest Mile at Glenboro Harness Meet

Firey Sam driven by Tim Romyn of Emo broke the Glenboro track record on Sunday, clocking 2 01.4 for the mile to top the Manitoba Great Western Harness Racing Circuit. Capi Direct previously held the records at 2 03.3 in Glenboro and 2 03.2 at Carman.

Area Boy Scouts Attend Operation Outreach in Whiteshell Park

Fifty Manitoba and fourteen Wisconsin scouts joined Operation Outreach at Camp Alloway Big Whiteshell Lake. The canoe trip includes three exit groups testing skills over six, five, and four days across 120, 85, and 65 km respectively. Attendees Sean Malyon Kevin East Reid Cummings and Ronnie Evans praised the challenging yet fun event.

Mrs McEachern Meets Prime Minister In Ottawa Visit

Liberal Lisgar candidate Mrs Anne McEachern met Prime Minister John Turner in Ottawa on Monday along with other women candidates to discuss women issue concerns. Opponent MP Jack Murta stands for the Conservatives with Lisgar nominees Peter Hiebert NDP and Jim Fallis COR Western Party. Election set for September 4.

Baler Fire Destroys Equipment on Bill McKenzie Farm

Firefighters were summoned Saturday afternoon to a blaze on the Bill McKenzie farm southwest of Glenboro. A baler in use at the time caught fire, destroying the baler and the large round bale. Operator Greg Lecogg, son of Denis and [illegible] Lecog, pulled the machine from the field before help arrived. The land is rented by Dennis and Mrs. Wytinck.
