Glenboro Racing Weekend Sees Track Record Fall Again
Attendance at Glenboro weekend events totaled 2560 with 1120 Saturday and 1440 Sunday as heat kept crowds lower than last year. Wagers reached 62331 overall with 23696 on Saturday and 39235 on Sunday. Sky Fortune Teller won the Manitoba Great Western Stake for 3 year olds owned by Stan and Don Zabba and driven by Jamie Gray. Cliffs Transport II set a new Glenboro track mark at 2 00.2, breaking the 2 00.3 record. owned by Roland Rey and Lloyd Lindberg and trained and driven by Rey. Next races are scheduled for Saturday at 5 PM and Sunday at 1 30 PM with two year old stakes on Saturday.

The Glenboro Gazette will not publish for two weeks Wednesday the 17th and 24th to observe a holiday. Publication resumes with the August 31st issue. The Gazette Office will accept commercial printing orders and ads. Sears remains open as usual.

Glenboro to repave Lyall Street with drainage upgrade
Surface drainage work began last week on Lyall Street from Railway to Murray avenues and will finish by week end. Borland Construction of Brandon digs ditches and lays a 2 inch asphalt lift on a 24 foot road for a total of 44000 dollars split between a provincial grant and the village of Glenboro. The village plans one street per year.

Jacquie Fraser to Compete in Quebec
Cypress River teenager Jacquie Fraser competed at the Western Canadian Juvenile Track and Field Championships in Edmonton in discus shot put and javelin. She did not place top three but set a personal best in javelin and earned selection for the Legion Nationals in Quebec City. Jacquie attends Glenboro High School and will start grade 12. she was named Female Athlete of the Year at Glenboro Collegiate and broke the zone discus record.

Spirit Lands Housing Co op advances seniors housing plan in Glenboro
Spirit Lands Housing Co op Ltd formed in Glenboro on June 20 1988 and seeks 15 to 24 unit seniors housing. The group has land from Perry Horton and consultants Siwak Rapson and architects James Rollier. A public meeting is set for August 17 at 7 30 p m at Raystone Memorial Centre with surveys and more info available from committee members.
