Manitoba Throne Speech Sets Wide Legislative Agenda

The Speech from the Throne outlines a broad Manitoba program including rural sewer and water projects ARCA reform and a farm economy boost. It envisions a new Department of Co operative Development a tax credit system sales tax changes and an integrated income security scheme. Additionally plans cover post secondary education native programs environmental agency a mineral exploration company and broader economic development measures.

N.F.U. Local 522 Re-elects L.W.Miller as President

Local 522 of the N F U met in the Glenboro I O C F Hall on Thursday April 8 for their annual meeting. Reelected as President was L W Miller of Stockton and as Vice President Joe Koldyk of Baldur. Directors include Harold Harpelle Cypress River Norman Skardal and Rick Desrochers both of Baldur. Speaker was John Palamarchuk of Winnipeg. The Local 522 area covers Cypress River Mariapolis Cartwright Glenora Neelin Baldur Belmont and Glenboro. The evening ended with a social and dance. National President Roy Atkinson and Women s President Evelyn Potter visit Manitoba this week.

Rebekahs Celebrate 60th Anniversary in Glenboro

Rachel Rebekah Lodge No. 29 marked its 60th anniversary on March 24 at the C C F Hall. Guests from Holland Manitoba featured slides and commentary by Gordon Down a Manitoba winner who spoke of his United Nations trip. The evening included vocal numbers, progressive whist, a birthday cake buffet, and a moving tableau of the Lord’s Prayer by sisters.

Birthday salute for Fred Frederickson and local club notes

The Gazette records Fred Frederickson turning 82 on April with well wishes. Glenboro Streamliners visit Baldur for a social evening, and plan a meeting on April 15. Patricia Ladies held a meeting with eleven members and arranged lunches for two upcoming auctions by Gordon Nairn and Bill Wilton. Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary District Representative visits share highlights from the Pilot Mound district meeting.

Farm borrowing rates lowered in Manitoba program

Manitoba farmers will pay reduced interest on Agricultural Credit Corporation loans. For the next quarter the rate is 8 3/4 percent on regular loans and 6 3/4 percent on loans to young farmers, three quarters of a percent lower than current rates. Farmers with mortgages to the ACC who form a corporation may transfer the mortgage at the initial rate.

Local curlers win bonspiel honors at Shile Spring event

Don Barr, John Bardason, Wes Brown and Ken McCloy captured the A event over Snaith of Austin after a 6 6 tie with Don forcing a final rock. Fraser Cullen Thornborough and Malyon won the C event by defeating Bird Brandon. The Glenboro Curling Club annual meeting and wind-up brinda a banquet at 6 30 and dancing to follow.
