Adoption Act Changes in Westman Adoption Services

Manitoba adopts new act affecting adoption services with new agencies allowed. Child and Family Services of Western Manitoba remains the sole provider for all types of adoptions in Westman. CFS will implement income based fees for certain services, exempting applications for children with special needs. Full fee details at CFS Main Office Brandon.

Birds in the Bush Tournament Crowns Champion

The Glenboro South Cypress Fire Department hosted the annual Birds in the Bush tournament at Glenboro Kinsmen Hall on Good Friday Eve. Only 36 participants due to heavy snowfall, but finalists included Roger Elliott Brian Hill Rob Gudnason Henry Booy David Naismith and Rob Wytiick. The winner was determined by a mix of skill and luck in the guessing game of coins.

Serious Flooding Possible on the Souris River

The Natural Resources River Forecast Centre issues a second spring flood outlook for 1999 highlighting potential serious Souris River flooding due to heavy snow cover and high soil moisture. Crests in Manitoba could match 1995 1996 levels with possible agricultural land flooding from the U S boundary to Souris. a fast melt with spring rain could push levels toward 1976 proportions, though this is unlikely.
