Anderson Rink Wins Mixed Bonspiel Crown

Sixteen rinks competed March 29 30 with Bruce Anderson Geor gina Cullen and Marilyn Jefferies defeating Lloyd Coates Ellen Bonnie and Brian Hill in the final. Jed Coates Scott Fraser and others won the B Event while Perry Dowd Bob Tosh Araina Dowd and Karen Tosh led the C Event titles. The Glenboro Club curling season ends with the bonspiel.

Curling Club Champs Declared in Glenboro

In Glenboro the curling club crowned champions across all divisions. Lloyd Coates beat Bruce Anderson for the Men’s title while Carol Cullen defeated Ellen Coates for the Ladies’ crown. Carl Pieh man toppled Steve Bjornson in the Once A Week club. Scott Fraser’s rink took the Ascenders Shield and Fred Jackson won the Afternoon Club. Trophies will be presented at the Windup Banquet and Annual Meeting on April 19.

Turf Club Holds Annual Meeting in Glenboro

The Glenboro Turf Club held its annual meeting on Monday in the Glenboro Rink with good turnout. Race dates are set for August 9 and 10, with qualifying races on May 10 or 11 at the Glenboro Track. Officers stay the same. Cam Makinson named delegate to the Manitoba Great Western Harness Racing Circuit with Eddie Wertz as alternate. The club plans summer preparations including planting trees along the north and east grounds.

Irving Heads Ducks Unlimited Canada appointment

Arthur Irving of Saint John named president of Ducks Unlimited Canada at the Winnipeg annual meeting on March 8, succeeding W J McKeag for a two year term. The group approved a 1986 habitat program totaling 36.6 million dollars to restore 365 wetlands across the country with over five million from Canadian supporters and the rest from Ducks Unlimited Inc.
