Secretary J B Sword reports a reply from C T Docker about the Lord Mayor's Fund. The aim is to improve distribution to soldiers via Commanding Officer requisitions and welfare officers. Militiamen reportedly receive limited comforts. future adjustments are expected to correct shortfalls.
The Royal Australian Air Force recruiting train will tour Dubbo from October 21 to 24 and Coonamble from October 25 to 27. The three carriage unit will interview, medically examine, and test trades for those meeting standards. Local officer J B Sword seeks stops at Gilgandra to interview applicants and save long trips.
Three airmen traveling from Narromine to the Military Aerodrome were struck by a motor lorry driven by Bernard J. Drew of Narromine. Kenneth Holder, 18, pupil pilot, died after being taken to Dubbo District Hospital by Air Force Ambulance. The other two companions suffered non fatal injuries. The deceased was son of Mr and Mrs George G C Wither of Coburg, Victoria.
The meeting at the War Memorial Literary Institute saw G Christie preside as the swimming club organized 79 seniors 61 juniors and 7 associates. Reports show receipts of £111 5 0 with £46 18 4 credit and a net profit of £17 1 3 from the carnival aiding the Baths Fund. Members attended Wellington Dubbo Narromine and Coonamble events. the season featured two carnivals, several races, and the Western District Junior Championship win by Bin Hay.

Organized by Mrs Alexander for the Gilgandra branch of the Red Cross the jumble stall on Saturday raised £204 plus £4 from competitions as the afternoon wore on, with a target to clear £83. Prizes included coke donated by Mrs Lommis won by Mr Wolf Coomber and an abeep donated by Mr McKenzie won by Mr J T Morris.
The Minister for Supply Sir Frederick Stewart confirms petrol rationing will begin October 1 and will not be delayed despite reports of a November start. He cites no basis for claims of government indecision and notes thousands of petrol coupons have already been distributed with record allocations expected at month’s end.
A government source says the Sth, 10th and 11th Divisions with corps troops will form when ALF recruiting restarts in November after compulsory training. The 1941 Reval Master Show is abandoned to free Showground for military use, with night shifts and training facilities planned at the chow ground.
World champion Horace Lindrum will visit the BC Rooms on Wednesday 2 October for a snooker exhibition. He will play three matches, give lessons, and perform feats such as trek and fancy cat bell spinning. Lindrum recently set and held multiple high breaks in South Africa and Queensland exhibitions.
Held at the Australian Hall on Friday night the annual Ballette drew a large crowd. Many fancy costumes impressed judges who announced prize winners as Mrs Gibson and Mr Carroll hosted a full supper. The event supported the Gilgandra Parents and Citizens Association with proceeds intended for local purposes.
A knitting circle thrives as nine pairs of mittens and two pairs of socks are donated to the Younger Sex Patriotic Fund. The Ballette event drew a large parent and child turnout, grossing about £24. The school thanks Gilgandra residents for support. Teachers record rainfall and form activity. students excel in geometry, Latin, art, and writing as the Primary Department completes a busy week.
The Baths reopen Saturday for the season with water filled and cleaning completed. Hours run Monday to Friday from 7am to 8pm and 12pm to 6pm, Saturdays and holidays 6:90am to 8:00pm, 10:80am to 1pm, 2:40pm to 5pm, Sundays 2:00pm to 5:00pm. Season tickets on sale at the Council Chambers until Friday.
Mr and Mrs A England of Dubbs marked their silver wedding anniversary on the 14th with about 40 relatives in attendance. The original ceremony element and bridesmaids were present including Mrs P Fovam, a Cilgandra sister, among others.
