Annual Tournament At Gilgardya Golf Links Honors Campbel

The annual scratch and handicap golf tournament at Gilgardya kept fourteen local players busy with no visitors present. Mike Campbell won the scratch event with Mrs. Murin second. Mrs. Hearn dominated the handicap divisions, reducing her handicap and claiming multiple trophies alongside Mrs. Godfrey. Prizes were awarded by Mrs. Tibbits, with thanks to Mr. Varese and club volunteers for organizing meals and scorekeeping.

Central West District Racing Association Holds 31st Meeting

The 31st Annual Meeting of the Central Western District Racing Association convened at Coonamble. President S. R. Shuthorpe presided. delegates from Carinda, Coonamble, Gilgandra, Walgett, and others attended. balance sheet showed a year ending 30 June 1941 with subsidy £250 and net balance £245/4/10. E. Townsend elected president amid acknowledgment of Shuthorpe’s long service.

Send-off to Private Guthrie at Curban Hall

A large crowd in Curban and Hillside gathered on Saturday to give Private W. Guthrie a final leave. Shire President Mr. Fallon presented on behalf of local groups including the G7 fund and war funds. Guthrie responded with thanks. The evening featured music, dancing, an enchre tournament won by J Sumner and P Fallon, and the Med Cross Society benefited by £333 from the function.

Drought Threaten New South Wales Wheat Harvest

Mr. H. C. Stemning of the Agricultural Department warned in Sydney that without rain in the next two weeks the state's wheat crop may reach only about 30,000,000 bushels. Last year yielded 76,000,000 bushels. had August rain fallen, harvest would have improved though still below normal.
