Campbell Wins Reid Cup at Dunedoo Golf Tournament

Dunedoo hosted a weekend golf event with Gilgandra players A Krohn B Gould A McGowan and H Campbell. H Campbell claimed the Reid Cup after 36 holes with 77 80 while E Lincoln finished 81 76 and Campbell won the three hole playoff.

Dubbo Mayor E. B. Serister Linked to Town’s First Survey

At a Dubbo Show luncheon during Australia’s 150th anniversary celebrations, P A and H Association president Mr L Clerk noted that the town was first surveyed by Mr White with assistant Mr Serisier, grandfather of current Dubbo Mayor Ald E B Serister. The mayor is a brother of L D Serisiar of Gilgandra.

Important meeting for Tooraweenah P A and H Association

A special general meeting will be held at Tooraweenah on Saturday May 28 to appoint committee and officers and to arrange for the next Show planned for Wednesday August 31. The May 28 meeting aims to endorse the August date and review finances and plans.

Golden Jubilee Celebrated for Sister Leonard at Dunedoo

The 50th anniversary of Sister Leonard’s profession as a teaching nun was marked with a Solemn High Mass led by Rev. Dr. Norton in Dunedoo. Attendees included 24 visiting priests and 32 nuns formerly allied with Sister Leonard, tracing her long service from Ireland to Australian towns.

Lawrance Johns Faces Charge Over Unpermitted Travelling Stock

The case against Lawrence Johns of Gilgandra for travelling stock without a permit, 27 horses, was heard at Coonabarabran Police Court. The Stock Inspector testified the stock came from Gilgandra to Toormweenah and Johns admitted lacking a permit. a £1 8s fine plus costs and professional costs were imposed.

Close Call As Old Well Caves In Sinking Worker Escapes

Gilgandra's Alf Fenton, a famed well sinker, was lowered into an old well at Allandale on W N Harris property. The boards bulged, he pushed free, and the bucket rose as the bottom caved in. He escaped with only sleepless nights, then returned to work soon after.

Cattle and Sheep Market at Flemington Sees Small Turnout

Pitt Son and Badgery Ltd reported 2 705 cattle penned at Flemington yesterday, the smallest in months, mostly medium to inferior stock. About 21 260 sheep and lambs were warded. Prices for prime cattle and good to prime sheep held firm with slight rate improvements on top stock.

Golf Topics Weekend Competition At Gilgandra

Dunedoo players were short handed but strong turnout at Gilgandra on Sunday saw A and 1 erade par 18 hole contests decide in the morning and a 2 hole mixed foursome in the afternoon. Winners were L Convary and P Hearn with Mrs Leggatt. Junior players also featured in the TR hale stroke, with B Harvowd and Tr Farearice tying WS before Farearice won on count back. The Canadian foursome yielded a foursome win for Leggatt and Mrs Leggatt, while Convary and Miss Tayloe led the 12 holes. The theatre advertisement follows.

Mixed Doubles Handicap Tennis for Hospital Fund at Park Courts

The American Mixed Doubles Handicap Tournament at Park Courts drew 30 pairs from Park club and surrounding clubs to aid Gilgandra District Hospital. Despite a warm day and few country players, receipts reached £8 12s 0d with £7 6s 6d profit after expenses. prizes and division results listed with M Lewis and Miss M O'Brien winning in Division I and other pairs in Division II.

Gilgandra Rifle Club prize shoot reports mixed scores

The Gilgandra Rifle Range hosted a monthly prize shoot with 14 shots at 300 yards in two stages. Scores included Sutton 65, J. McClure 68, and G. McClure 28 35. police scores and numerous mixed results followed. Gilgandra firsts clinched a 23 10 win over Gular with Jack Wilson scoring five tries. Seconds also triumphed 3 0. H Furner coach injured, J Ryan scored for the visitors, L McKenzie and J Wilson led Gilgandra’s backs. Final tally reflects seven Gilgandra tries with one conversion.

Unusual Tractor Back Fire Incidents Reported

Two similar back fire accidents involving tractors occurred in the week at Mendooran and Eumangerie. At Mendooran, Bev Jones suffered a facial wound requiring three stitches when a crank handle struck him during starting. At Eumangerie, Ken Buck was knocked unconscious, broke his nose, injured teeth, then drove to Dubbo for treatment.

Grazing Right Granted Over 150 Acres in Yaleoghin Parish

At the last meeting of the Coonabara bran P.P. Board the stock inspectors recommended a grazing right for Mr. N. Chandler over about 150 acres of TSR No. 28898 adjoining his property opposite portions 24nd Street in Yaleoghin parish. The right allows running 12 head of large stock on the land. The proposal was adopted on the motion of Directors Redden and Jones.
