Wheat industry urges broader federal support

A Senate deputation from wheatgrowing states told Prime Minister Menzies that last year’s federal assistance was inadequate under current conditions and urged substantial extra help. They proposed a fixed minimum price for the national wheat market, not just domestic-use grain. A second deputation urged inviting Primary Producers' Association and Wheat Growers' Union to the Canberra Experts Conference, with Menzies promising to investigate.

First Birthday Celebration of Church of England Girls Club

The 1.0.0 F. Hall hosted a cheerful gathering Monday for the first birthday of the local Church of England Girls Club. About 60 to 70 attendees enjoyed supper, tea, and cakes as Rev W J Hudson led the ceremony lighting the birthday candle. Mothers were welcomed by Miss Nita Beasley, fathers by Mr F Paul, and gratitude was voiced to supporters. The event ended with dancing as Miss B Rapbell supplied music.

Obituary of Ellen Wakefield in Dubbo District Hospital

Ellen Wakefield died after a few days illness at Dubbo District Hospital aged 84. She lived in Dubbo most of life, born Molong, survived by children Mrs Bailey John Mrs Downes Mrs Curran William Alfred Patricks and Mrs Gaunt. Funeral left Se Wrighd s Church at 11 am Saturday for Catholic portion of Dubbo cemetery beside husband dican Wakefield.

Passing of Dubbo Pioneer

Charlotte Jemima Taylor widow of George Henry Taylor aged 93 years nine months died at The Pines Cobborah Street Dubbo, oldest pioneer of the town since 1831 voyage from Scotland. Survived by three sons and a daughter with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. long noted for civic and social life, horticulture, birds and flowers.

Campbell wins silver and bronze medal rounds in golf

The second round of the Silver and Bronze Medal golf competitions, held Friday, saw Miss Campbell win the 18 hole stroke event and post the best nett in A division. In B division, Mrs Dignam recorded the best nett. standings show Campbell leading Silver division and Johnson close behind in Browner, with a four ball scheduled for Friday.

In a Sunday practice at Gilgandra Rifle Range G Mc Clure set a range for the event while P Sutton dropped only three points across two stages from 600 yards. Sutton posted 77 of 80 with others like McClure Horwood Tompkins Marchant Hearn Monighan Ross McNeill Dickman Kember Psaltis Gagnon and Gagnon contributing notable scores in a two stage event with eight shots per stage.

Young NSW solicitor passes final law exams at 22

On Monday eight Mr Alan Beveridge of Gilgandra passed his final Law Examination at the May Term in Sydney. At only 22 he is believed to be among the youngest solicitors in New South Wales and will be admitted as solicitor and attorney of the Supreme Court in July. He will take over his father's practice with Messrs Beveridge and Serisier as his father plans to retire or reopen practice in the city.

Gilgandra Suffer Double Defeat At Collie And Eumungerie

Gilgandra first grade lost 16-7 to Collie while second grade went down 22- to Eumungerie. Bonser opened Collie with a penalty, then Grady scored for Collie before McKenzie converted. L McKenzie added a penalty for Gilgandra, final 16-7. Next Sunday the Greens meet Mendooran on home ground.
