Rifle Opening Shoot At Gilgandra Range

The season's first shoot at Gilgandra Rifle Range drew good attendance. A McClure won the Al grade event and W Dennis took the B grade. The contest used two stages of 16 shots from din yards with bursting point 7H for headicrps. Weather was good.

Warren upset Gilgandra 13 to 0 at home as Gilgandra showed promise with young players and strong backline. Ostler and Lynn scored for Gilgandra while Warren’s Willgon and Wilson impressed alongside Logue and Miller as attendance slumped after a long layoff with a rematch planned against Tamworth on the local ground.

Golf Notes Highlight Radcliff Dominates on Gilgandia Course

Frank Radcliff, a scratch player from Mr. George Sorlie's revue, delivered stellar golf with rounds of 33 and 35. He also posted a birdie on the 4O yard hole and an eagle at the 810 yard mark, while teaming with W Highfield to win a fourball. Krohn led the morning stroke event with 76 net 69, and L Kember shot best in the afternoon par handicap at 70.

Gilgandra Rifle Club Elects Officials At Annual Meeting

The Gilgandra Rifle Club held its annual meeting on Saturday electing Patron A Kember Captain FP Sutton Secretary J Hos Treasurer W Dennis and committee members Ao McClure G McClow J Wilson Auditor A McNeill. The club shows a £7 credit balance from last season and announces shoots on every second Sunday. A Tooths Trophy is donated by Teeth and Co Lub and will be contested with the NASA Medal in July and August as a handicap event with the winner holding the trophy briefly.

Million Dollar Reward for Hitler Capture

A May 1940 offer from the Carnegie Institute promises one million dollars in cash to any person who delivers Adolf Hitler alive to the League of Nations for trial before the High Court of Justice. The letter, from Carnegie Institute President Samuel Church, appeared in the New York Times and aims to curb further bloodshed and German aggression.

Two Men Injured In Collie Road Crash

Two men were injured when a motor utility truck collided with a lorry near Collie Road about three miles out. Both drivers suffered abrasions and shock and were admitted to District Hospital. The lorry owner was A K Murray of Gilgandra. the utility owner driver was N J Woolfe of Trangie and Nevertire. Mr Murray, standing on the lorry bumper with a torch, was knocked into a table drain and briefly unconscious.

Association Golf Officials Elected and Stroke Competitions Held

Friday’s adjourned meeting named Mrs. Tibbits as President with Mrs. Johnson Mrs. Hearn and Mrs. Ackes as Vice Presidents and Mrs. Legend as Secretary and Ms. Kembe as Treasurer. Miss Campbell won an 18 hole stroke event. Mrs. Johnson won a 12 hole stroke handicap on Sunday afternoon amid a series of scores and participants.

Petrol price rise forecast by motoring groups

Motoring circles forecast an increase of at least three pence a gallon in petrol within three weeks. The Motor Traders' Association and the Service Station Association seek authority from the Price Commission to raise prices by more than the additional three pence, possibly another penny.

At a Tuesday assembly Gilgandra District School bade farewell to Miss Mica Virtue who joined the secondary staff this year. Headmaster Mr Madden and pupils from both boys and girls sections wished her happiness in her new vocation. Miss Virtue thanked the school for its kindness and said she had been very happy at Gilgandra.

Thirty members attended the Mendlooran Red Cross meeting with Mrs. Dempsey in the chair. They thanked volunteers for catering at the Titty ball supper and projected a £70 to £80 profit. Winter meetings will start at 3 pm. next month will feature a short programme with competitions and a social after a brief business session.

The Gul Gandia branch of the Country Women's Association met Saturday with 21 members present. Mrs J Hiatt was elected treasurer to fill the vacancy and Mrs Wood was appointed to the House Committee seat. The group plans the Weir More Wool campaign and a supper at the Masonic Ball.
