Fire escapes kitchen blaze at Chinnock private hospital

Fire siren interrupted mid day meals as a large wooden kitchen at the rear of Chinnock private hospital caught fire. The blaze, noticed by Mr Heiler, spread quickly but the Park tank supplied ample water and firefighters kept the flames under control. The building owned by Dr H Peet was badly charred and likely to be demolished. Seven patients were in the hospital but unharmed.

Light Horse Dance Celebrates Gilgandra Troop Annual Ball

The Gilgandra Light Horses Troop held its annual Troop Dance at the Australian Hall on Tuesday night with about 150 couples attending. Profit around £4, nearly doubling last year’s take, shows the event’s growing popularity. Visitors from nearby areas praised decorations, music by Mrs Gibson’s four-piece orchestra, and the well run feast and floor conditions.

Warren District Hospital board warns of resignations

At the monthly meeting the Warren District Hospital Board voted unanimously to inform the Hospitals Commission that they will resign their trust if immediate financial aid is not provided before the next monthly meeting. Prize money of 240 pounds will be given at the Warren Diggers races on May 18 and 19. Mrs Mary Dalgleish of Parkes died January 15 leaving an estate sworn at 27 964 pounds for her children and grandchildren. Mr J E Dalgleish of Ellersile Warren is a son. Miss Minnie Fitzell will wed Mr Oliver Goldsmith of Coonamble on Tuesday April 18. The bride elect is the youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs S S J Fitzell of Boona West Condobolin formerly of Dubbo.

Armatree cricket club defended the Golsby Cup defeating Catholic Club Gilgandra by 72 runs. Armatree, batting first, posted 101 with D Ryan top scoring at 42, while Wygold and Peart each took four and three wickets respectively. Catholic Club were bowled out for 173, O Tate scoring 50 and G Dowling 30, with A Childs 3/28 and P McCarthy 3/34 the leading bowlers for Armatree.

The Gilgandra Golf Club invites residents to the season opening this Sunday with a four ball morning and a mixed foursome afternoon. McClure Wins Sun Day Practice Shoot at Gilgandra

At Gilgandra Rifle Range on Sunday a practice shoot across 600 yards produced high scores despite a brisk rightward breeze and changing light. G McClure posted the best off the rifle with 78 and won the handicap event ahead of P Sutton while several shooters posted strong totals, including F Dickman C Heritage and W Dennis.

Curban Rifle Club began its 1989 season with a two stage 300 yard match on Sunday. Wind troubled shooters and magpies were noted as eight shots per stage allowed two fighters. H Mackay led with 71 of 80 while scores for Sunday included B Smith 70 and C Hughes 70.
