Gilgandra P and A Show Dates Set for 1939

At a Gilgandra P and A Association meeting on Saturday August 15 and 16 were chosen as the 1939 Show dates. Sub committees were appointed to revise the schedule with work to begin immediately and the schedule to be endorsed at the next committee meeting on Saturday April 16. The group also resolved to hold the Show Ball on the second night.

Dawes Unable to Take Clydesdales to Orange Show

Mr A C Dawes told the Gilgandra P and A Association that a letter from Orange Show secretary Mr Williams offered to cover all expenses for a Clydesdale group to travel to the Orange Show. He cannot go and hopes another district owner will take the team. Williams visited Gilgandra and was surprised by the Clydesdales on display at the last show.

Gilgandra Bowls Triumph Over Wellington in Pennant

Gilgandra A grade and B grade teams played on Sunday with Gilgandra A winning all three rinks in the afternoon after Wellington’s stronger B team had hoped for an upset. Morning results had Gilgandra’s B grade defeated in two of five rinks. A visitor, Mr M V Falconer of Gilgandra, spent a holiday with Mrs H Greenhalgh in Mendooran.

Rifle Shooting at Gilgandra Club Practice Range

A Sunday practice at the Gilgandra Rifle Range allowed 16 shots in two stages from 600 yards. Weather was good with light and a steady right rear wind. J Rosa posted the best rifle score of 78. Other scores included J Ross 78, P Sutton 77, G McClure 76, A McClure 76, R Merchant 75, F Dickman 75, A Kember 75, and R McNeill 75 with handicaps listed for April and several shooters named.

Re appointed secretary to Gilgandra P and A Association

At the first meeting of the new committee Mr G Christie was unanimously re elected secretary for his twenty sixth year. President R Stanley paid tribute noting Christie runs the show and will continue beyond 30 years in the role. Christie thanked the committee as salary was fixed at £100 for the year.
