Late Mr Vaughan Remembered at Myall View Property

The obituary notes the life of Joseph Vaughan, aged 80, who arrived in Sydney in 1877 aboard the John Eder. A relig ion engineer and roll turner by trade, he helped build Lithgow’s first blast furnace, worked in Ultimo and Melbourne, and led rolling mills until 1917. He later turned to grazing, acquiring Twidale and finally Myall View at Gilgan dra. His work included a cooperatively built shearing shed and a long career linking Vaughan to local industry. He leaves two daughters and two sons, with his wife having died before him.

A Gilgandra and District Patriotic Fund meeting was chaired by Mr. Christie with Rev. C H B Douglas and several local figures in attendance. Proceedings included acknowledgments of donations, auditing approvals, a £28 cheque from Toormweenah War Workers, and a £286 5 10 balance with £4 1 8 accounts paid. Books for items donated by Mr. Pye were printed and to be sold next week.
