Neighbours and friends in Gilgandra entertained Mr Max Falconer of Good Will who leased his property with a social evening at the CWA Rest Room. A traveling bag was presented and a farewell was bid as Mr Falconer prepares to leave the district.

Ten Recruits for Second AIF from Gilgandra Troop

Reliable word says ten members of the Gilgandra Light Horse Troop now in Wallgrove camp have offered for enlistment in the Second AIF. Names cannot be published yet as most have not advised their parents. One name is known but withheld.

Community bids farewell to Falconer in Gilgandra district

Speakers recount long acquaintance with Mr. Falconer from 1 Dunedoo and Mendooran before his departure to Gilgandra. Tooraweenah War Workers Plan Local Sports Day

At a recent meeting the Tooraweenah War Workers association outlined a full day of events including horse and car races, athletics, bicycle events, the greasy pig, tug of war, wheelbarrow race and other contests. Donations have been promised and inquiries directed to Messrs Waterford Buckley Harden. A strong hall committee and Ladies Auxiliary officers were noted as part of the preparations.

Obituary of Harold Hector Roy Amiet of Carinda

Harold Hector Roy Amiet a long time motor carrier in Carinda died after extended illness. He had surgery in Sydney for facial issues and spent months in hospital before transfer. Amiet owned substantial Carinda property and was known for hauling wool bales to Welgett railhead. His funeral at Carindy cemetery was conducted by Rev Neil MacLeod of the Iboce Memorial Church Walgett.

Wheat quality concerns raised at Gilgandra district meeting

Mr J W Wilson called for action at the P and A Association meeting to discourage Febweb wheat due to poor strength and district quality concerns. He noted Fel wel and Febweb I mix ups and said wheat tested locally showed weaker grain. Kennedy asked about district coverage. Wilson said the wheat came from Mr W G Law’s farm.

Water supply plan advances at Girgandra Lake Council meeting

At the February session the Girgandra Lake Council declined to delay action on a 16,000 gallon water tank project. A motion to rescind was tabled and carried for discussion at the next meeting, with alternative tenders to be sought for a galvanised iron and concrete tank.

The show features 2,000 metropolitan artistes, lavish lighting, huge stage units, and a fleet of delivery trailers, with ticket prices 3 shillings and 8 pence tax included.

Death of John McAnally of Trangie at Fifty

John McAnally of Trangie died after 18 months of ill health aged 50. Born in Victoria he settled in Trangie 42 years ago and leaves a widow six sons and three daughters. Funeral was held at the Church of England section of Trangie cemetery conducted by Rev. H W Ellis. He was a pioneer held in high esteem.

Gordon Christie Re-elected Secretary for 27th Term

At Gilgandra P. and A. Association meeting Gordon Christie was re elected unopposed for the twenty seventh term as secretary. President Stanley praised his merit and Christie thanked the members, noting his long tenure and commitment to the society. The remuneration remained fixed at £100.

Gunnawarra Goldie, born December 1 1938, by Browndale Sultan from Lothin Goldblocks, is in the under 18 months class and for sale. Gunnawarra Sultan 16th, born December 20 1988, by Browndale Sultan from Oskwood Maud, is not for sale and related to Merrie King, the U.S.A. female champion from the previous year.

Railway Defenders Edge Dubbo in Mumford Cup Thriller

Gilgendra Railway cricketers failed to defend the Mumford Cup, bowled out for 78 as Dubbo chased 337. Openers added 164 in a strong start. E Bennett 65, Dawson 148, Nash 62, Rogers 3 stumpings highlight an allround Dubbo performance. Williams and Willems took key wickets as Railway collapsed, Pip 3/7 and Kupps 5/20 supporting the win.

Swimming Notes Sunday Races At Gil Wanura Baths

A lively morning at Gil Wanura Baths featured several races with strong attendance and spirited competition. Ian Hay won the 23 10 metres event in 1p 3/6, W Smith was second, F Astill third. Astill leads the field in the Devil score. Other results include Junior Boys across baths Pat Habgood first, John Krohn second, Noel Gerlick third, and smaller pool events won by John Morris and Neville Morris among others.
