Gilgandra Light Horse Troop Shines in Parkes Camp Test

After nine days at Parkes the Gilgandra unit of the Light Horse returned by special train with high praise for efficiency and performance. Parkes won the Prince of Wales cup with Gilgandra finishing third. officers and Bishop Wylde lauded the regiment. The unit excelled in sword work, Hotchkiss gun events, and section jumping earning a Diggers Cup and ribbons. The commander praised the troops as the finest he had seen.

Music Successes for Misa Dalmain Pupils at Trinity Exams

Pupils of Mies Dalmain achieved passes and honours in Trinity College London theory exams held December 6. Senior Helen Burrell and Dorothy Butler passed with marks 78 and 70 respectively. All candidates succeeded and teacher praised.

Obituary of William Homer 49 in Orange Hospital

Complications from arthritis led to the death of William Homer at Orange Hospital on Friday aged 49. Born at Mandurama he lived in the Dubbo Gilgandra area and had friends in Orange. A Returned Soldiers League member who served in the Great War with the 18th Battalion his funeral was held Saturday. Survived by a widow and family mother in Dobbo three brothers Charles Edward Michael and a sister Mrs Harvey. Remains interred in the Church of England section of the Orange cemetery.

On Sunday February 28 Mr and Mrs Stanley T Jarvia of Malvern celebrated their silver wedding in the home her father built. The couple’s daughter Mary helped craft a large silver themed wedding cake with ly of the valley spray and the bride’s veil. A section of the cake was sent to their daughter Nell at Putte High School as friends recalled the couple’s years since their 25th anniversary. Plans include a second honeymoon in Sydney to view the Royal Show.
