Golf Club Members Elect New President At Annual Meeting

The Gilgandra Golf Club held its annual meeting at the War Memorial Literary Institute on Thursday night. The retiring president E Townsend did not seek re election, and H Campbell was elected president. The treasurer W Highfield reported receipts of £287 16s 1d with a year end deficit of £19 2s 0d, noting course improvements cost £88 19s 4d. Members praised the season, thanked retiring secretary J Farrance, and agreed to set annual subscriptions at prior levels for membership categories.

Wedding Bells In Ioly Trinity Dubbo

A pretty wedding was celebrated at Ioly Trinity Church Dubbo by Rev C W Leaver. Miss Isabel Plummer married Ray Dawes with Miss E Hole at the organ. The bride wore shimmer satin with orange blossoms and carried rosebuds tubes and frangipanni. Attendants were Miss Jessie Plummer and Leo Dawes best man. About 50 guests attended the reception at Victoria Hall. The three tiered cake mirrored the bride’s mother’s cake. The couple will honeymoon touring.

Rare Gilgandra Contingent Photo Hangs in Local Cake Shop

A forgotten mart in Gilgandra era is rekindled by a large detailed photograph of the 20 year old contingent arrival, displayed in Mac’s cake shop on Piltwater Road. The image shows spectators in old Western attire, Captain Hitchen and other familiar faces, a reminder of town history. The writer urges public display in a Memorial Institute, noting the shop is now run by a descendant of A J MacGregor of the “Coo-ces” era.

Health department orders action on safety system at Mendooran

The Department of Health instructed Cobbora Shire Council to implement a safety system at Mendooran and to arrange for a certificated death inspector. An officer visited Alendooran Merrygoen Dunedoo and Baltimore advising mandatory inspection. The meeting discussed staffing and payments, with thanks to retiring officials and committee appointments for the new season.

Surprise win for Coonamble bowlers at Gilgandra

Coonamble Bowling Club visited Gilgandra for a friendly on Sunday, winning all three rinks by 24 points. New Coonamble players impressed, while Gilgandra struggled across the boards. Afternoon tea and a social welcome followed, with optimism for future meetings this season.

Wheat bounty plan backed for direct grower payments

At a Hilston growers meeting the Wheat Bounty was unanimously urged to be paid directly to growers by the Commonwealth Government. If not implemented it was contended that the Commonwealth should withhold £100,000 to the State Government until a direct payment guarantee to growers is provided.

Next Season Wheat Scheme Faces Skepticism

An official of the Wheatgrowers Union announced in Angarie that members will sell next season's wheat directly to an English company at world parity, earning 3d to 4d more per bushel. G. W.
