War Memorial Institute invites new members for 5 shillings

The Gigandra War Memorial Institute reports rising membership and invites nonmembers to visit and join. The library holds about 9000 books including J B Carle Travels and Men priced at 9d. Baseless Rumours Follow Gilgandra Parents Meeting

The Gilgandra Parents and Citizens Association held its monthly meeting at the District School chaired by President EB Townsend. Attendees discussed the successful previous Schools Picnics and Sports, praised Mr Schoemaker’s remarks, and addressed first aid, desk replacement, and bread donation by Mrs Barns. they also commended Mr Holt for organizing the sports programme.

Golf Tourney at Gilgandra Delivers Local Victory

The Central Sectional Championship of the Western District Golf Association was held at Coonabarabran Monday with about 100 players from Baradine, Coonamble, Gunne dah, Gulgong, Binnaway, Dubbo, Trangie, Gilgandra, Birriwa, Coolah and more. Campbell of Gilgandra won with 79 7 148, Docker of Coona lurahran was second. The course proved very tough with holes near percept and locals noted as hardest in the West.

Obituary for George Sheehan Sr at Yalgogrin North

George Sheehan Sr died May 30 at Yalgogrin North aged about 79. He married Rebecca Hemphill at Hay and lived in Yalgogrin North for 28 years, worked at Wyalong mines, and owned mining claims. He leaves a widow three sons and five daughters including Nora Dawson, with grandchildren Patric, Rey, and Grace Dawson.
