Larrikin from Coonabarabran Pleads Guilty

A Coonabarabran youth, aged about 10, pleads guilty at Dubbo Police Court to stealing a pear-shaped apple valued at £1 5s from Richard Barrett. He is sentenced to two months but suspended on entering into a £15 bond for two years good behavior. The youth, labeled a larrikin by Detective Burke, had prior convictions for indecent language and riotous behavior.

Australians owe £166 7s 5d per person in debt

Modern Travel Flane Chartered for Trip to Newcastle

Miss A Curran of the Royal Hotel with Miss Foggy iWKvefe took a chartered plane from the Newcastle Acro Club to Gilgandra on Wednesday afternoon last. The craft, piloted by Myers, left Newcastle at 11 am and arrived Gilgandra at 1 pm. The main trip lasted Jus over two hours, returning Gilgandra at 3 40 pm and landing Acwartla at 6 60 pm. Mrs P Meehan of Comnick joined both ways, had morning tea in Newcastle, lunch, shopped, met friends in Gilgandra, and returned to Newcastle for tea.

Planes to be produced in Australia under £20 million scheme

The Acting Minister for Supply and Development Sir Frederick Stewart announced a major Australian program. He said thousands of aircraft would be manufactured in Australia within the next year or two at a cost of £20,000,000, creating no less than 10,000 skilled and semi skilled jobs.

Defence hush: Sixth Division overseas reinforced 20000 yearly

Military circles at Defence Headquarters Melbourne state that when the Sixth Division of the IF goes overseas on active service reinforcements will be sent abroad at the rate of 20000 a year. Special dental units are to be raised for the A.LF in addition to the dental officers already forming part of the Sixth Division medical unit. The Minister of the Army Mr G A Street said the new dental units would be wasted wherever they were required.

Appointed Shire Engineer to Orara Shire Council

Congratulations are extended to Mr. Keith Lindaly, Assistant Engineer to the Gilgandra Shire Council, on his appointment as Engineer to the Orara Shire Council, South Grafton. He has served as Assistant Engineer at Gilgandra for fourteen months and will begin duties on the 8th of February. Shire Clerk of South Grafton is Mr. L A Donnelly, who qualified in the Gilgandra office.

OFF TO CAMP Gilgandra Light Horse to camp at Wallgrove

Several officers of the Gilgandra Light Horse Troop are in camp at Wallgrove and the rest will depart by train next Tuesday. Trooper M McLennan reported to Brigade Head Quarters on Monday. Promoted from corporal to sergeant is A L Meheliar, now transferred to Training Cadre.

Mrs Eva Frances Giddings wife of W A Giddings, a Mendooran farmer, died at Dubbo District Hospital on Thursday at age 45. Born at Ponto Wellington digfirf she is survived by husband two sons and two daughters. The cortege left Holy Trinity Church and burial followed at Dubbo Cemetery Church of England section.

Grass Fire Threatens Paddock Near Urban Area

A grease fire in Mesars McCarthy Bros paddock spread into the policy paddock near the city. Volunteers fought the flames as two residences were at risk. The blaze burned several acres of grass but caused no damage beyond the paddocks and was extinguished before reaching high grass on the flat.

Gilgandra bowers beat Wellington in both A and B grade pennant matches. In B grade one rink won 46 to 12, offsetting losses in other rinks as We Creenaune led the victorious side. A grade fixtures saw Gilgandra win two of three rinks with a 19 point margin overall, guests entertained at the club with afternoon tea hosted by President Mr. R. J. Nelson.
