In Gilgandra District Cricket, Railway moved to the top with five points after Gilgandra forfeited to Balladoran due to heat. Collie and Catholic Club drew with Springfield, while Eumangerie clung to the leader's pride despite the results.
Eumungerie defended home ground for a comfortable three wicket win after Lodge were dismissed for 93. W McMillan led bowling with 6/49 while Hewett’s 112 not out anchored Eumungerie to 227. Hewett top scored for Lodge with 13, F Kelleher and A Wakefield also among the run makers.

During a heat wave critics blame local authorities for breathing delays in finishing the swimming baths. The Council cites slow replies from the Department and tile supply issues, noting NSW manufactured tiles cost more than Victoria made ones. A returned soldier named Newby Harris aged 41, living near Coonabarabran, drank hydrocyanic acid after an unhappy marriage to Mix Margot Brown from Gulargambone. An inquest heard he left his unfinished work and died at his Wagett home amid family tensions and vanished poison bottle. The bottle, found missing, prompted medical and police inspection. An electrician found Harris fully clothed on his bed and notified authorities. The case raised questions about contact with his wife and the exact manner of death remains under inquiry.

A deceased man was found to have ingested prussic acid from a bottle bought earlier to kill bugs. Evidence showed a note and letters suggesting personal troubles, while doctors noted the stomach contents and collapsed lungs. John Gaynon a Gilgandra district pioneer died at his daughter’s Girilambone residence after a heat illness. He was 79, born at Tambarore and moved to the district as a child with family. Survived by four children and siblings, funeral held at Girilambone Catholic Cemetery with Father Seaton officiating.
