Chairman Mr. A. F. P. Goodwin announced Anglo-Westralian Mining Pty Limited is examining base metal deposits while expanding with the Horseshoe Gold Mines plant at Peak Hill and options on several prospects near Nabawa Marble Bar Sandstone and other WA sites. He cited gains from higher gold prices due to sterling devaluation and praised management led by Ian J Cameron. Year 1940 ore total 424 525 long tons with 3.17 dwt per ton gold, yielding 50 700 fine ounces gold and 22 037 fine ounces silver. Development total 820 ft with drift 1 531 ft crosscut 1 800 ft raising 1 282 ft winging 1 007 ft. Main shaft depth 1 240 ft. Reserves Dec 5th 1940: 1 870 000 long tons averaging 2 0 5 dwt per ton gold. Mill improvements planned to increase recovery. capital expenditure planned for mine and mill upgrades this year. Continuous efforts to improve plant pulp aeration during cyanidation.

Three gang criminals who escaped from Berrima Gaol were recaptured near Broken Hill at 3 45 am after stealing a motor truck and fleeing through Cobar and Wilcannia. They surrendered at pistol point and were jailed in Broken Hill. Victors Kelly Alfred Beardon and Edward Wilhop aged 21 to 23 faced police after the breakdown of their escape.
