A garbled Geraldton Guardian item references water supply concerns and a blaze investigation. It mentions a canine incident and a political remark by a mentor to a district figure, with names partially legible. The report hints at an inquiry overseen by a supreme authority and a letter from the mentor to the district leader.
The Alfniater notes Geraldton’s water supply for 1947-48, with a low usage of 14 792. Critics argue that district gains from wharfage, rail freight, and agricultural exports outweigh local water costs, suggesting cheaper rates. The minister urged to study decentralisation and consider a possible reduction, challenging the view that no factor justifies a decrease.
Local report notes a civic reception planned in Geraldton to present the Sixth Security Loan pennant to Mayor Dr. J. McAleer by Premier Hon. I. H. McLarty, with a second pennant for Northampton during a Premier visit. Also mentions Army recruiting at Geraldton with a mobile unit at the Drill Hall and efforts to attract young men aged eighteen to twenty five, ex servicemen to thirty five, and vacancies for apprentices.
Weather forecast from the Weather Bureau for Geraldton predicts cool and cloudy conditions with moderate northeast winds. The report also notes traffic incidents, wheat exports, and local cultural events including radio theatre and an art exhibition in Geraldton with attendance details and opening times.
