Smells of London Stir Stanley Davies Memory Talk
Stanley Davies of London spoke to the BC s Overseas Service about how keen memory of scents completes knowledge of London history. He recalled hay near Bond Street, stalls at Hillingsgate Market, Bermondsey tinnery odors, Bow and Stratford factory vapors, and the West End perfume air in Jermyn Street. He noted milk odors near Marsham Street and the printing shop aromas of Fleet Street, concluding London smells are as enduring as its sights.

He said Dutch Italian Egyptian and other European and Middle East firms moved wool to the United States via transferable sterling, then sold for dollars, highlighting currency manipulation concerns.
