Ropeway to Link Penrith and Warragamba Dam

Australia’s largest market ropeway project begins this year. A South Australian firm Petty Engineering Co Ltd with British Ropeway Eng Co, London, hold the contract for £308.44. The cable system will transport gravel and sand from McCan’s Island Penrith to Warragamba for dam concrete over five years, with an expected 2,500,000 tons. Buckets carry 1.5 tons along a 2.5 hour journey, max 170 tons per hour, automatic loading and unloading stations, and eleven workers for the full twelve-kilometre loop. The Water Board calls the cost shocking but directors forecast savings versus motor transport.
