Australian lamb in Britain criticised as exaggeration
In Melbourne on December 30, Mr H F McLennan, chairman of the Newmarket Producers Association, dismissed a Sydney journalist’s claim that Australian lamb sold in England is almost all fat and good only for sausages. He said 90 percent would be first quality, with export momentum supported by heavyweights, and urged Britain to offer competitive prices if it wanted light lamb. Britain guarantees farmers about 2/8 per lb for home-grown meat but offers only 0d to 1s 1d for first quality Australian lamb fob at ports.
