A fragment mentions Commercial Union with a breach note tied to George's Gorge Johnston, identified as secretary and underwriter, within Commercial Union Buildings. The readable text is terse and lacks clear context or dates.
The opening day weather dampened crowds at the Perth Hors Show and Parade though breeders praised fine animals and soundness. Notable outcomes include Mural scones winning blue ribbon with Barbarosa second and Gladiator with Silver King top pony stallions. Bonnie Charlie and Royal Blue led draughts. Auctions saw Matchlees Marin bidder at 390 guineas, Pride of the Times bought for 120 and Cipay for 80, with others unstated. Tender results for Port Hedland to Marble Bar rail line undercut estimates, plus concerns over tendering fairness. The American visit looms with cadets and bacchall exhibition promised, while political notes touch labor Senate ballots and railway land cultivation provisos.
The letter argues for the Sandstone route and urges unions in Geraldton to support the project. It praises broad minded views, calls for funds to fund propaganda, and links the choice to employment for Lumpers and resistance to mining magnates. It appeals to Railway Union members to contribute and emphasizes district welfare and shared labor rights.
The Football Association considered appeals on fines and disputes and decided not to entertain a request from the Fire Brigade Club to reconsider their fine after a lost match. It declined arranging a Geraldton-Dongarra Pirates match due to upcoming visits by South Murchison and Fire Brigade teams. A plan to select a strongest Geraldton team to meet South Murchison was approved, with clubs to sign nine players for a 15-man selection. The association will seek the Railways player’s version and involve the Railways and governing bodies where located.
