In Leyte on November 28 heavy rain slowed ground fighting while air operations intensified across the Philippines. Mitchells and Liberators dropped 195 tons of bombs on Cebu and Negros as Japanese fighters contested raids. Thunderbolt and Lightning escorts shot down several attackers. one bomber was destroyed and seven others damaged. Damage hit runways on Alicante aerodrome Negros and enemy installations in Cebu town.
