Hill 50 N L formed in June 1934 to acquire Mt Magnet property has declared its first dividend of sixpence per share payable January 28. This equals 12 per cent on the 4s shares and will absorb £6,250. Capital totals £50,000 in 250,000 shares all issued. Much mining has been done on the Sirdar property bought from M T Williams for £9,000 cash with vendor agreeing to take 15,000 shares at par.
W G Quinn, a prospector at Mt Cecilia about twelve miles south of Linden, crushed nine tons of ore at Mt Margaret for gold. The ore came from ground formerly held by A Chaney who relinquished it last August, according to a Mines Department telegram received Tuesday from Linden.
Sydney police intensified efforts to seize a suspect who shot John Dickins, 54, owner of Green Valley Farm near Oaklands. Dickins died instantly from a chest wound. a large funeral followed. The search spans New South Wales and other states as detectives describe the suspect.
Sydney reports at 5 am a man sought out Sergeant Weiss to interview him about the shooting of John Dickins UH, farmer of Green Valley, Sunday night. The man was detained after making a statement. This afternoon Henry Thomas Mansell aged 36, a farm hand, was charged with maliciously and feloniously slaying Dickina.
The Redistribution of Seats Bill failed on the second reading motion as Labour supported it with twenty five votes, two Independents opposed, and three Opposition members absent. Defeat came by lack of the required twenty six affirmative votes under the Constitution.
December 16 report from the Legislative Assembly notes the Terminal Grain Elevator Bill defeated at the second reading. Minister for Lands Mr. Troy defended the bill amid a cross-floor vote as seven government supporters joined the opposition, while eight private Labour members sided with the government. A BIN proposal sought a Board with borrowing powers to establish and control grain elevators at port terminals.
An elderly Geraldton resident James Boase Warren died at 86 at North Midlands Hospital Three Springs after illness. Born Port Lewin Mauritius, he moved to NSW as a child and to WA in 1806 to work as a contractor on the eastern goldfields. He lived in Geraldton with his son Constable A J Warren for about three and a half years. Funeral attended by Constable Warren and Mrs Myers, with E K Byrne present.
Senator Sir George Pearce urged preserving the subsidised Darwin to Perth air route amid plans for an Empire Flying Boat service. He argued overseas mails could be sorted before London departure, keeping Darwin to Perth direct delivery and rejecting Sydney forwarding.
