Market notes show modest firmness in livestock and commodity pricing with limited yarded stock. Buyers remained present though attendance and quality varied, weights and grades influencing quoted ranges from £8/10 to £14 per hundredweight amid a lean sale day.
Agents billed 415 cattle sold at Midland Junction on Tuesday, about 200 more than the previous week. Consignments came mainly from the South West and nearby districts, yarding was mostly plain conditioned cattle with few top quality beasts. Metropolitan buyers attended with strong inquiries from country agents. prices rose compared with last shipment, with bullocks ranging from 13 to 15 guineas and steers around 10 to 12 guineas.
Elder Smith and Co, Dalgety and Co, Goldsborough Mort and Co, and Australian Farmers Ltd each presented cattle lots. Prices and weights described, with various classes including heavy, medium, pale and rough stock. Vendors and offered counts listed for the sale.
The market recorded 9 757 sheep and lambs with mixed quality. Best heavy weights sold up to 28 4d, medium weights 22 0d to 73s, and good light weights 10s to 18s 4d. cows £9 to £12, steers £8 10s to £9, pigs penned with keen competition and Parkers about 2d dearer.
