A major fire swept the former section of the Cokusbes Penitdetary in Ohio late Monday. Within an hour about 100 bodies were removed as guards and soldiers arrived to control escaped prisoners. Fire and chaos spread through the western cell blocks and mills as rescuers fought to smash locks and free inmates.

Golden Horseshoe New Ltd moves to re treat the Golden Mile tailings at Sine in Boulder with a 40 000 ton per month operation. The five year plan aims to sluice Mt Sutherland south east of Boulder, using an automatic Oliver fitter and Merrill Crowe process to cut labour and dust, with Mr T K Stevens in charge of erection and design.
Mullewa April 22 a Saturday evening dance at the Town Hall raised funds for distress families, with about 30 couples dancing and over £4 expected to benefit. A RS L loreal branch meeting set plans for the 26th inst and a wreath on Soldiers' Memorial at the RC Church on Anzac Day. A committee was to meet at 1045 a m to prevent misunderstandings on Anzac Night and future use of the hall for that day.
The metropolitan event drew strong showings from Geraldton and Fremantle teams with visitors naming notable athletes like F Thorvon and V Bennett. Senior and junior points races challenged swimmers as crews praised sportsmanship and pace in relay and heat finals.
A great final saw E Clifton and W Dawson dead heated for second as W Nelson led to win. Clifton and Dawson again dead heated in the 100 yards with HK, Pell filling third. The city team Pell Murphy Clifton Thorson triumphed in the flying squadron. A new Brady Benporath shield was inaugurated with Benporath winning the opening fixture and hosting for a year. An examiner will assess bronze qualifications and a metropolitan team will be sent next year. N Clifton praised Geraldton Newspapers Limited at the press toast. Lunar details forecast for April with full moon on April 6, first quarter April 13, last quarter April 21, new moon April 2.
