The inquest into the Richmond railway accident opened today. Superintendent Blaynay testified the first train was elationing when the collision occurred and that the first team was driven a distance of AH by the impact. Inquiries received 311 claims for compensation.
A man named John Tanner, age 22, employed as a man in the Collingwood Council, died when crushed under a steam roller. He, a fisherman by trade, supposedly should have been twenty yards ahead of the rolling apparatus, but drew too near while a horse shyed. The incident occurred as he failed to note the danger and the roller advanced, ending his life.
The no confidence motion moved by Leader of the Nation Party Me Prendergast was debated in the Legislative Assembly. The motion was defeated by 38 votes to 0, delivering a government victory.
