Memorial service for Mrs. James Thomson in difficult weather
The late Mrs. James Thomson, noted for charity and nursing on the Victorian goldfields, is remembered in a memorial service at St Marys Church. Born Alice Leyland, she taught Sunday school, visited the sick, and aided Cue hospital during typhoid. She married James Thomson in 1878 and accompanied him to London for Exposition work. She died July 1 1906 after a life of service from Fryerstown to Cue and London.

Heart of Rameses II Survives 3164 Years In Embalmed Vase
Report from Professor Ler tet of the French Academy reproduced in The Lancet describes the heart and viscera of King Rameses II after embalment for over three millennia. The fourth vase lid bears a jackal motif. the egg-shaped heart tissue is described as solid and hornlike requiring jaw effort to separate a portion. The king’s tongue is believed present in the royal mummy found at Thebes and now in the British Museum Cairo yet no doubt remains that the observed organ is Rameses II’s heart, who died circa 1268 BCE.
