Defeat of rebel Lake Champlain fleet confirmed
From the London Gazette November 25 1776 Sir Guy Carleton reports two engagements on Lake Champlain near Crown Point. British vessels Inflexible Maria Carleton Schooners and gunboats destroyed much of the rebel fleet. Arnold’s Congress and ships blown up or fled. Casualties small for British, heavy for rebels. Dacres praised for conduct. Admiral Pringle notes vast reconstruction efforts and sailors’ patriotism.
